Welcome to my insanity, I mean Big Fat American Dream! If you’re here, you’re probably a bit like me, tired, overworked, a dreamer, happy, random, sometimes chaotic-okay all the time-and living your very own version of your Big Fat American Dream, or European Dream (you lucky bastards), or Canadian dream. Whatever, you’re all welcomed to get sucked into the crazy with me. Stay a while, have a whiskey with me, let’s be friends mmmmK?!
“So, why should we read anything you have to say?” you might be thinking. To which, I would reply, “Because I might make your life feel normal, and that is very satisfying indeed.” For reals though, I like to write, and if you like what I have to say, I like you back, and if not, well Bless Your Heart!
So we can get to know each other, I’ll tell you a little about me. That way, you can decide if you want to spend your precious time reading about My Big Fat American Dream. I was born and raised in Texas, I have two kids through international adoption, I am a Gemini (dual personalities-SO Fun!), I have three dogs who I love and hate equally, I feel the same way about food and exercise as I do my dogs, I am an artist, I spend an inordinate amount of time working on/worrying about improving myself, my drug of choice is travel (I’d pop that pill all day if I could) and brainstorming business ideas (nerd!), and I am a divorcee in the process of starting my Big Fat American Dream ALLLLLL OVVVERRRRRR AGGGGGAIIIINNNN…..rebuilding my life, one square foot of concrete foundation filled with tears and worry at a time.
Things have not been easy, but I have it better than many, and worse than others. This blog is part of the rebuilding, one of the things which I need to make time for, and usually don’t. Because, well, single mom, and dog mom, and working mom, and homeowner, and someone bring me a Mom-osa already! That light and fruity beverage was invented so mom’s didn’t have to feel guilty drinking at breakfast/brunch; I am sure of it….and also did I mention I might have developed ADHD since children came into the picture?
This time in one’s life is a bit scary. It’s like that moment you graduate from college without a job lined up, and the world is your oyster, and it is equally thrilling as it is terrifying to not know if you’re going to be able to shuck that damn thing and get the pearl. And then you’re like, well I don’t really like pearls, I’d rather a diamond or an aquamarine, or something. How can I get one of those?
So, if you’re interested in rebuilding your life, travel, falling in love with your Manx Canadian best friend, dogs, motherhood, adoption, shucking oysters, watching someone else fight an uphill battle, or any other shenanigans…stick around. You might just get some fun, or crazy, or absolutely insane ideas.
Love and Luck,
Ashley
